Geo-Wall allows students to design and create a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining wall out of paper reinforcement. A rectangular wooden box with an open top has one of its walls replaced with paper reinforcement, with the goal of making sure it can sustain 500 lbs of sand. On top of that, and extra load of 50 lbs of sand is added, and finally another 20 lbs of sand is added hanging outwards horizontally from the wall. This tests the geo-wall by subjecting it to vertical, lateral, and dynamic loads. Ultimately, the objective is to optimize the least amount of reinforcement needed to support the retained soil and specified loads.
