Concrete Canoe is a year-long student project focused on the design and construction of a canoe made out of concrete to compete in an annual competition at the Pacific Southwest Symposium (PSWS). To prepare for the competition, the fall quarter is dedicated to the research and development of concrete canoe while the winter quarter is devoted to the construction and refinement of the concrete canoe. During the school year, students have the opportunity to work closely with captains to develop a unique concrete mix design, perform structural analysis, create an aesthetic design of the canoe, construct the canoe, and train to row the canoe in water. There are many opportunities to get involved, as Concrete Canoe provides applicable hands-on experience, and technical knowledge that is beneficial academically and professionally. Students of all class levels are welcome to join and learn.
