President's Welcome

My name is Janelle Gonzalez and I am the incoming 2019-2020 ASCE UC Irvine Student Chapter President. I joined ASCE as a first year and quickly became involved after joining an ASCE UCI mentorship family and becoming the ASCE OC Graphic Designer. Given my unique experience in both ASCE’s professional and student groups, my goal as president is to bridge the gap between our students and industry.

My fellow board members and I wish to provide our members with valuable professional development while creating lifelong relationships with both peers and professionals. The team will achieve these overarching goals by providing technical workshops, networking events, and encouraging members to participate in competitive engineering projects.

ASCE UCI concluded the 2018-2019 academic year with a total of 149 general members. This academic year we hope to increase overall membership with a focus on recruiting more underclassmen and transfer students. To increase membership retention we hope to motivate our members to experience their “firsts.” Whether it be finding their first friend, creating their first resume, or attending their first Pacific Southwest Conference, our leadership team hopes to guide them along the way. I look forward to growing our student chapter and helping our members find their path in the civil engineering industry.

On behalf of ASCE UCI, I would like to give a special thanks to our alumni, advisors, the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, CEE Affiliates, students and sponsors for your continuous support. Once again, thank you and I look forward to leading this incredible group of students.

Best,

Janelle Gonzalez, EIT | President

About Us

At the college level, ASCE serves as the bridge between academia and industry, giving students guidance throughout their professional journey. We accomplish this through offering insights to potential civil and environmental engineering vocations, technical skills in the form of projects, and workshops to give students the confidence to succeed. Beyond providing professional development, our mentorship program and regularly hosted socials are a way to get to know people outside of the club.
