The Scranton Project is a year-long ASCE-UCI endeavor to win the Scranton Community Service Award issued by ASCE-National. The team of about 10 engineers is undertaking multiple service projects that benefit the surrounding community while providing valuable engineering experience to members. We are currently working on a drainage solution for UCI's Anteater Village Community Garden, which often becomes water-logged during the rainy season due to its highly sloped terrain. The project is a collaboration with Engineers Without Borders UCI (EWB-UCI).The team will construct a network of 400 feet of pipes and catch basins at the Garden’s northwest corner, which collects the most runoff. The majority of the project’s design has been completed, which included surveying and AutoCad work, but construction has been postponed indefinitely because of the COVID-19 outbreak. If you are interested in participating in the construction of this project or future community service projects, reach out to the Project Manager Patrick Kol at [email protected].
