ASCE UCI is teaming up with two organizations in an effort to make a difference and give back to our community. Read about our partners below, and be sure to check out our social media for more updates soon!
Orange County Environmental Justice (OCEJ) is a nonprofit organization that advances an environmental justice agenda in Orange County through advocacy, public accountability, and systematic transformation. OCEJ’s coalition of activists, researchers, and community scientists work to draw attention to the major environmental health disparities within OC. The group’s current endeavors include addressing soil lead contamination through a health action plan called “¡PloNo! Santa Ana'' and tracing water pollution across the county through their “PhotoVoice” project.
Santa Ana Active Streets (SAAS) is a community-based coalition that cultivates diverse community participation in creating a safe and accessible environment for active transportation in Santa Ana. The group accomplishes its three goals: educate, advocate, and activate by hosting community events, partnering with local organizations, and working directly with city officials. To support local residents, SAAS EDUCATEs through “bici basics” safety workshops, ACTIVATEs through helmet/light giveaways (¡Luces Vivas!/Lights Alive!) and group rides, and ADVOCATEs by gaining consensus for their progressive transportation infrastructure policy platform (Active Transportation Leadership Program).
